🎉 What an Incredible Summer for Our Sioux City TAP Program! ☀️
Throughout the summer, students from North, East, and West High Schools came together for our 4-week Sioux City TAP Summer Program, where they gained valuable real-world experiences, explored career pathways, built independence, and developed skills that will help them succeed in school, work, and life.
📸 Here are just a few highlights from an amazing summer:
🎓 College & Career Exploration
Students toured Western Iowa Tech Community College (WITCC), Briar Cliff University, and Job Corps, where they learned about admissions, academic programs, career training opportunities, campus life, affordability, and the many pathways available after high school.
💼 Career Readiness
Through an Employer Panel and Mock Interview Day, students connected with local employers, learned what businesses look for in future employees, practiced interviewing, and gained confidence in the hiring process.
🚐 Workforce Connections
A visit to IowaWORKS and Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services (IVRS) introduced students to career resources, resume development, workforce services, and even a hands-on tour of the IowaWORKS mobile career unit.
🏭 Business & Industry
Students toured Chesterman Company, where they learned about local career opportunities, production processes, workforce training, and the company's rich history.
🧠 Life Skills
Students participated in role-playing activities focused on problem-solving, workplace expectations, transportation challenges, communication, and making responsible decisions when unexpected situations arise.
🚗 Building Independence
Students prepared for their driver's permit by receiving instruction and completing the authorized Iowa DOT permit exam, helping many take an important step toward greater independence.
🚌 Transportation & Budgeting
During Sioux City Transit Day, students learned to navigate the city's bus system and completed a budgeting scavenger hunt focused on meal planning, smart shopping, and money management.
❤️ Health & Wellness
The Siouxland District Health Department shared valuable information about healthy living, nutrition, exercise, hygiene, and overall wellness to help students thrive both personally and professionally.
