About the Program

North High School is proud to offer cheerleading. The Iowa Cheerleading Coaches’ Association sanctions cheer competitions and events throughout the state of Iowa. Through involvement in athletics, students learn valuable life skills, including teamwork, leadership, and commitment.

North High cheerleaders:

  • Support our school by cheering at football and basketball games;
  • Support our community by hosting cheer camps for children;
  • Promote healthy competition by competing at cheer competitions;
  • Exhibit financial responsibility by participating in fundraisers; and
  • Promote a team environment through team building activities and positive communication.

Each year North High students are welcome to try out for the cheer team. Tryouts are held during the spring for the following school year.

Meet the Squad

Student-athletes give their all, both on and off the court, field, and stage. Countless hours go into strength, conditioning, and practice to build strong athletes that are prepared to compete. Likewise, our athletes fulfill academic requirements in order to participate in sports.

Giving Back

Each October, the North High cheer team hosts a mini-cheer “Pink-Out” camp for students enrolled at Bryant, Hunt A+ Arts, Irving Dual Language, Leeds, Perry Creek, and North Middle in grades K-6. Then, the camp members perform during the North High “Pink Out” basketball games to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month. All proceeds from the camp are donated to the June E. Nylen Cancer Center.

The North High Cheer team also hosts an annual Trick or Treating to End Hunger event. Each year, the event collects in excess of 1,200 non-perishable food items for the Siouxland Community.

Fundraising

To help cover gear/equipment and competition costs, the North High cheer team partners with Jolly Time Popcorn in Sioux City to participate in the Koated Kernels Popcorn fundraiser. Fundraising encourages creativity and teamwork and teaches the importance of charity and community.
